Details

Hakka Mantis boxing teaches to grit the teeth and scowl at the opponent, while appearing fierce and threatening, or to appear weak and lure the opponent into the Mantis trap.  Each has an advantage, but these are just strategies and must be implemented with boxing tactics. The maxim is ‘raise the spirit’ –  tactics or skills must be controlled by intent, willpower, warrior spirit.  Strike with the soul and you will never miss.  Thought and action are one!

Dawan Dwellings in Pingshan New District

As one of China’s largest Hakka areas, Pingshan New District is a very interesting place.  With more than 220 years of human history, it is celebrated for its collection of Hakka houses, the most famous being the Dawan Dwellings which began construction, in 1791, during the reign of Qing Dynasty Emperor Qianlong.

Dawan, in the 1970s, was an Hakka people’s gated and enclosed community of over 200 families, more than 1,000 people in 400 rooms, halls, and courtyards totalling a prodigious 270,000 square feet. They all shared the same surname, Zeng.

Pingshan may be considered the ‘Hometown’ of China’s Kwongsai Mantis and nearby Huizhou City is the hometown of Chu Gar Mantis. Both locations are Hakka Mantis enclaves.

FROM RDH:

I’m 61, in 2017.  I started training, in the 1960s.  I started training USA Kwongsai Mantis with Louie Jack Man, in the 1970s.  I made ceremony to Mark Gin Foon, in 1980.  I first arrived at Hong Kong’s Chu Gar Door, in 1983.  I made Chu Gar ceremony to Gene Chen, in San Fran, circa 1988 and Cheng Wan Sifu, Hong Kong, 2002.   In 2013, with Chen Jianming, I opened the first public Chu Gar School, in Lao Sui’s hometown.

I’ve been coming to Pingshan since 1992, and haven’t left Pingshan, in the last 15 years.  There are two Kwong Wu Tong’s in Pingshan and above is shown Kwong Wu Tong Number 1, under Wong Yu Hua.  See this year’s celebration above where Wong hosted more than a thousand people for New Year.

I continue my association with the Hong Kong Chu Gar clans, Lao Sui’s hometown family and Chu Gar clans,  and the Kwongsai Mantis Clans in Hong Kong, China, and the USA.  Your visit is welcome.
